U.S. citizen or legal resident, 18 years old or older, Not belong to an HMO or a PPO, nor have private insurance nor benefits through the Department of Veterans Affairs, Not seen by an ophthalmologist in three or more years, Not seen by an EyeCare America volunteer ophthalmologist in the past.
M-F, 8am-noon. Online Referral Center available 24 hours daily.

Visit Referral Center on website to determine eligibility. Qualified patient is emailed a referral to an ophthalmologist in the local area for a medical eye examination and follow-up care for whatever condition is found.

None for eligible clients. The patient's insurance will be billed. Volunteer ophthalmologists accept Medicare and Medicaid. Insurance is billed and co-pays and deductibles are waived. Uninsured clients are accepted at no charge. Eyeglasses, prescription drugs, hospital services and fees of other medical professionals are not covered under the program.

Description

Provides a referral to an ophthalmologist (medical eye doctor) for a medical eye exam to eligible adults nationwide at no out of pocket costs for the doctor fees. Promotes annual, dilated eye exams. People eligible for a referral through the program receive a comprehensive, medical eye exam and up to one year of care at no out-of-pocket cost for any disease diagnosed during the initial exam.
