Eligibility
Driver license: Must be age 18 or older and a Washington state resident. Ages 16 through 18 must have completed a driver's training course and have signed parental permission or proof of emancipation.
Application process
Visit website to find a local office. For an initial driver license or identification card, applicant must present proof of identity including name, date of birth, signature and photo. (A more specific list of acceptable proof is available on website.) Applicants must pass a vision exam and provide Social Security number. New licenses also require passing written and driving exams, though exams are waived if applicant has a current and valid driver license from another state.

DSHS clients can receive or renew an ID card for $5 if they have the DSHS form 16-029 filled out by a DSHS caseworker.
