Eligibility

Housing assistance is available only to clients who have been determined eligible for the Housing and Essential Needs (HEN) program by the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS). Priority is given to households classified as unsheltered. The Housing Authority of Grant County will verify the client's eligibility and assess their risk of homelessness to determine if they qualify for financial assistance. However, please note that financial assistance is not guaranteed. Criteria for Housing and Essential Needs Grant Funds: 1. Homelessness: This includes individuals living outdoors, in buildings not intended for human habitation, in emergency shelters, in temporary housing, or fleeing domestic violence. 2. Substantial Risk: Indicators of substantial risk include receiving a pay or vacate/eviction notice, utility shut-off notice, late payment notice, or a certification of potential eviction. 3. Additional Factors: Other considerations include living in overcrowded conditions, residing in a condemned property, experiencing a sudden increase in utility costs, having physical disabilities, chronic health issues, a history of institutional care, previous mental health or substance abuse issues, credit problems that hinder housing acquisition, pending foreclosure of rental property, or being discharged from a facility (such as prison, mental health institution, or hospital) within the past 180 days. Additionally, experiencing homelessness within the last 12 months may also be a factor. All client options will be assessed, including supportive resources and networks, such as friends, family, church groups, social service agencies, or other potential housing options.
