Youth Crews offered by Washington State Department of Ecology
Offers youth employment doing outdoor physical labor as part of a litter crew cleaning and recycling on roadways and in public areas, during two summer sessions. The work schedule is Monday - Thursday, 8 hours a day. Two 15-minute breaks and one 30-minute lunch break per day. Insured by Labor and Industries for work related injuries. No medical benefits, paid holiday, sick, or vacation time. Expected to work the entire session every day. Youth are responsible for daily transportation to and from the crew meeting point and for providing and wearing a pair of sturdy, hard-soled, over-the-ankle leather-type work boots.

Application process
Application available online, including instructions for teacher references. Call or email for more information. Applications open February 1st of each year and must be received by April 1st.
Eligibility
Must be 14 - 17 years old on the first day of employment. Eligible to work in the United States. Submit one complete application and two teacher references by the required deadline. Certify you are able to meet the conditions and requirements of the job. Be available to work every day the entire session with NO unexcused absences. Camp or a family vacation is not an acceptable excuse.

Specific recycling and hazardous substance information on many items, including: glass, newspaper, beer bottles, aluminum, cardboard, scrap paper, magazines, plastic, household hazardous waste, used oil, used appliances, scrap metals, toxins, paint, yard waste, tires, phone books, electronics and unwanted medications.
