Section 8 Program offered at Pierce County Housing Authority

WAIT LIST CLOSED Allows eligible applicants to qualify for a rental subsidy through the Housing Choice Voucher Program. Rent is based on 30% of household income. Applicants that qualify for the program will be put on a waiting list. Placement on the waiting list will be done by random drawing.

Application process

Apply online. Only submit one application per waitlist - if two applications are submitted for the household, the household both will be removed from the waitlist. (a household can apply to the Section 8 waitlist and Low Income Public Housing waitlist, but can't submit two application for Section 8). Have ready: - Full name and social security number for ALL family members (if a family member doesn't have a number, contact the housing authority). - Active email address - Monthly income for the entire household - A current mailing address. If no computer access (home, library, social service agency), the Pierce County Housing Authority will also have alternative ways to access the application. After submitting an application, there will be a confirmation number - print or write this number down - it will be needed later. Applications are available in other languages. If a disability prevents you from using the computer, contact the housing authority.

Fee

It is free to apply online. If you are on a website that is trying to charge you to apply, it is the incorrect website.

Eligibility

Applicants must meet HUD eligibility requirements, and have incomes that do not exceed HUD-established area income limits. Potentially eligible applicants will be placed on a waiting list until a housing subsidy can be issued.

Mission: to provide safe, decent, affordable housing and economic opportunity, free from discrimination. The Pierce County Housing Authority is a public body, corporate and politic, created by Pierce County in 1978 pursuant to State statute to provide affordable housing for low-income families in Pierce County. Today, PCHA serves over 2,500 households with Housing Choice Vouchers, and over 600 more households with affordable rental units. PCHA is governed by a Board of Commissioners, who meet on the last Wednesday of the month at 3:30 PM. This meeting is held at the PCHA campus and hybrid over Zoom.
