Must be 55 years of age or better and qualify based on income. Senior Companions must be able to: - Develop a supportive person-to-person relationship with adults with disabilities, in particular older adults, - Be in good physical health, - Pass a criminal history check, and - Commit to serving a minimum of 15 hours per week with 2 to 6 clients.

Description

Provides socially isolated seniors or disabled adults with such services as: - companionship, - nutrition assistance, - socialization, - assistance with correspondences, - escorts to medical visits and essential shopping, - information and advocacy, - as well as respite support for caregivers. Benefits for volunteers: In order to be eligible for a tax-free stipend of $2.65 per hour, Senior Companions must not exceed a projected annual income from all sources, after deducting allowable medical expenses, of $1805.00 per month. In addition to an hourly stipend, Senior Companions receive 40 hours of pre-service orientation and training, accident and liability insurance, annual physicals, monthly trainings, approved transportation reimbursement, and annual recognition.
