Description
Provides low-income older adults with vouchers to purchase fresh, locally grown fruits, vegetables, herbs, and honey from authorized farmers markets and farm stores. The program supports healthy eating, helps stretch food budgets, and connects participants to local agriculture. Participants receive a one-time seasonal benefit of $80 loaded onto an electronic benefits card. Benefits can be used to buy items such as apples, berries, leafy greens, tomatoes, peppers, squash, and fresh herbs. Funds are available for a limited time during the market season and must be used from June through October. A free phone app allows users to track their benefit balance and purchase history, and locate authorized farmers markets. Seniors who are unable to shop for themselves can appoint a trusted friend or family member to act as a proxy to shop on their behalf.
