Service Dogs offered at Paws Assisting Veterans
Eligibility
The need exceeds the availability of trained service dogs.
Dogs are matched based on the needs of the veteran and the availability of a service dog that would best meet those needs and circumstances.
Candidates should:
- Need to be honorably discharged
- Be able to attend training in Oregon, including providing own transportation and lodging
- Be able to meet the physical, mental, and emotional needs of a dog, or have an adequate support system in place to do so in areas where you are unable to yourself
- Have the full support of your family, including caregivers, in your quest to receive a PAVE dog
- Be able to provide financial support for the dog including quality food and equipment and veterinary care

Payment Options

Trains service dogs for veterans with mental and/or physical disabilities to be reliable public access dogs that behave well in public and at home.
The dogs are trained to perform general tasks, for example opening the fridge, a door, picking up items and so on.
Dogs are also trained to provide a calming presence.
If you have nightmares, the dog could be trained to wake you and calm you down.
