Women's Shelter offered at DESC's Kerner-Scott House Women's Shelter

Operates a nightly shelter for 25 adult women with mental illness. Program offers beds, pillows, linens and blankets. Continental breakfast is provided in the morning.  DESC staff pick up clients from the Women's Referral Center in the evening, and return them to the Women's Referral Center in the morning.

Application process

Clients must have referral from Women's Referral Center (2030 3rd Ave, Seattle).

Eligibility

Women, ages 18 and older experiencing homelessness, particularly those living with mental health condition. Case manager at Women's Referral Center evaluates clients to determine eligibility.  Does not accept those that have a sex offense.

Provides four major types of services: comprehensive outpatient mental health and substance use disorder clinical and medical services; behavioral health crisis and outreach services; enhanced homeless shelters/emergency housing; and permanent supportive housing. Specializes in serving adults living with serious behavioral health conditions, co-occurring disorders and polysubstance use, and longtime experiences of homelessness and trauma.
