Inpatient Psychiatry Unit at University of Washington Medical Center - Psychiatric Services

Voluntary inpatient psychiatric unit provides diagnostic evaluation, including medical work-ups, psychological testing, and assessments of family and social situations.  The 14-bed unit offers expert psychopharmacologic evaluations, a wide variety of group treatment approaches and individual and family assessment, with an emphasis on medical/psychiatric services.  Average length of stay on the unit is 6-10 days.  Crisis intervention, discharge planning and coordination of treatment plans with outpatient resources is initiated soon after admission.  The unit is staffed by psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers and occupational therapists, with a wide range of medical specialty consultation available as needed.  Each patient is assigned to an interdisciplinary team.  The team meets seven times weekly to develop and revise individualized treatment plans.

Hours

Central Intake: M-F, 8:30am-5pm; services available 24 hours daily.

Application process

Patient may not self-refer for admission.  Individuals or referring physicians requesting inpatient admission should call Central Intake Office.  Admission requests outside of intake hours are evaluated in the UWMC Emergency Room, by social work staff and on-call psychiatrists.

Fee

Approximately $2,200 per day per bed.  Laboratory and physician fees are additional charges.  WA Apple Health (Medicaid) accepted for acute and emergent patients.  Will accept some private insurance and Medicare.
