Shelter and Day Center offered at Catholic Community Services Southwest - Pierce County - Nativity House

Provides a safe place where men and women experiencing homelessness can get: - a meal, - hygiene items, - clothes, - mental health treatment, - a good night's sleep, - respect, and - opportunities to develop affirming and empowering relationships with staff, and begin a realistic process of generating income and becoming housed. Meals are available to those not staying at the shelter. Can hold up to 299 people. Has about 117 men's beds and 50 women's beds.

Day Center: Daily, 7am-4:30pm Overnight Shelter: Daily, 4:30pm-7am Phones: call after 5pm, and if needed, staff will return calls after 5:30.

Application process

Doors open daily at 7am for the general population. Overnight shelter guests are admitted from 4:30pm-7pm (summer until 8pm). Guests may come into the dining facility and either get their admission pass (for those with reserved beds), or sign up on the waiting list. First time guests complete a registration form, take a shower and are assigned a sleeping location. If the shelter has no openings, guests go on a waiting list. Average wait is 2 weeks for men and 1 week for women. Each guest receives a "welcoming interview" the first day. Guests keep the same bed as long as they come on consecutive nights, by check in time.

Single men or women, age 18 years or older, experiencing homelessness.

Helps individuals experiencing homelessness in Pierce County. Catholic Community Services, Homeless Adult Services (HAS) is the largest provider of adult homeless services in Tacoma, Washington. Nativity House (NH), a program of HAS, is the central hub to serve homeless adults in the Pierce County region. It operates 24-hour/7-day a week, offering services (emergency shelter, meals, systematic outreach, Coordinated Entry, Mental Health and Co-Occurring Disorder treatment, Employment Services, Spiritual Support, 50 units of permanent supportive housing, etc.) to meet the basic needs of individuals experiencing chronic homelessness and supporting guests with meeting their goals. HAS is a division of Catholic Community Services, a large multi service agency serving Western Washington. Catholic Community Services also provides counseling, foster care, long term care, family preservation services, international foster care, pediatric interim care, foster grandparents program, Tahoma Indian Center, Family Housing Network family shelter and housing program.
