Entering kindergartners must be five years old on or before August 31; those born between September 1- October 31 may be evaluated for early entrance.

Oversees the basic education curriculum for the Seattle Public School district.   Elementary schools emphasize language arts, reading, arts, science, and math.   Middle schools provide a transition to high schools.   Middle school students may choose exploratory programs or electives in a variety of areas from art to computers.   Many middle schools also offer intervention classes and learning labs for students needing extra help.   All high schools provide a wide range of electives and most have specialties in particular areas.   Graduation requirements include a cumulative 2. 0 or above Grade Point Average (GPA), and a 2. 0 or above cumulative GPA in all courses in English/Language Arts/Mathematics/Social Studies/Science and exit standards and service learning requirements.   There are 95 school sites in Seattle.
