Representing tenants in eviction hearings, the Housing Justice Project’s Appointed Counsel Team assists low-income individuals who have received a Summons and Complaint for Unlawful Detainer (Eviction). Those facing a show-cause hearing are urged to attend, as the Appointed Counsel attorneys are available to provide crucial representation. Additionally, the Housing Justice Project offers support to tenants dealing with eviction notices, installment plans for move-in costs, move-out issues, security deposits, necessary repairs, disputes, habitability concerns, discrimination, illegal lockouts, utility shutoffs, past evictions, and the impact of criminal history or legal financial obligations on their records. The project also engages in community outreach, education, and collaboration with partners to eliminate barriers to securing and maintaining housing.
