7-1-1 offered by Washington Telecommunication Relay Services
Provides phone relay services between users of amplified, Internet, telebraille, teletype (TTY/TDD), video and standard telephones. A majority of clients are deaf, deaf-blind, hard of hearing and people with speech difficulties. All conversations are handled in strict confidence. A person who is deaf, deaf-blind, hard of hearing or has speech difficulties types his/her conversation using an amplified, telebraille, TDD/TTY, video or standard telephone. The message is relayed by a Communications Assistant (CA) who reads it verbatim to the hearing person at the other end. The CA then relays the hearing person's exact words by typing them back to the relay user. Also provides Voice Carryover (VCO) and Hearing Carryover (HCO) services. VCO is for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing (TDD/TTY user) who want to speak instead of type. The deaf or hard-of-hearing person talks directly in the phone. The CA types the hearing person's response to the TDD/TTY user. HCO is for a person with speech difficulties who prefers listening to reading. The person with speech difficulties types his or her responses for the CA to read to the standard telephone user.
