Location serves as the Tacoma job training center and Goodwill's regional corporate offices.

- Age 18 or older - Job seeker with an interest in a career in the IT industry - Ability to pass pre-course assessment with an 80% or higher. Students who do not pass the assessment will be provided learning modules to increase skill level in order to pass assessment and enter course. - Internet connected device **Goodwill can provide technology loans as supplies are available, and have low cost technology purchase income based programs.

Description

Offers a hybrid course that prepares job seekers for entry-level employment in the tech industry as helpdesk technicians or IT technicians with a career plan. Introduces students to core computer functions, how to manage and maintain a laptop and a desktop, and an introduction to the concepts around system and software applications. 7-week hybrid course offered quarterly at Goodwill's Tacoma campus, hybrid course meets 2 days in-person and 2 days online. Provides students additional lab time with their local training coordinator, and will offer Employment and Financial Coaching through enrollment in Goodwill's Financial Opportunity Center. In addition to a course completion certificate, successful students will be awarded a scholarship to earn their COMPTIA IT Fundamentals Certificate. COURSE TOPICS INCLUDE: - Career and Skills Assessment - Industry overview - Student success skills - Emotional Intelligence in the workplace - Peace Literacy in the workplace - How people use computers - System hardware - Input and output ports & peripherals - Data storage and sharing - Setting up and configuring a PC - Understanding operating systems - Working with applications - Managing files - Setting up and configuring a mobile device - Configuring network and internet connectivity - Local computer security threats and best solutions - Online security threats and best practices - Computer maintenance and management - Computer troubleshooting and problem solving - Understanding Databases - Developing and Implementing Software - Capstone Project - Job search, Resume formatting, Interview Skills, and Online job platforms.
