Organizations that provide viable transportation options that enable older adults, people with disabilities, students, veterans and others living in rural areas and small towns (especially those with low incomes and/or limited ability to drive) to take advantage of employment and educational opportunities, attend health and social service appointments, go to meetings, participate in social and leisure activities and shop for groceries and other necessities in their own or neighboring communities. Transit options include intercity bus services (which are especially crucial to providing services for communities without passenger rail options), fixed-route mass transit services that utilize buses that run along an established path at preset times picking up passengers at designated bus stops, and  interregional bus services that connect smaller communities with urban centers. Variations include express fixed-route services with fewer stops; deviated-fixed route services which allow vehicles to deviate from the fixed route to pick up passengers at other specific locations, e.g., places of employment or child care centers, while keeping to a timetable for scheduled stops; point-deviation services which allow vehicles to stop at scheduled stops per a timetable but pick up passengers with advanced reservations between scheduled stops; and arrangements in which vehicles have no fixed stops but allow riders to hail a vehicle which travels along a fixed route and request a drop-off anywhere along the route.

Rural Area Public Transit Services

Provides trip coordination for the Shoreline-Lake Forest Park and Duvall-Carnation Community Vans in partnership with King County Metro. 
Community vans provide residents with customized options for getting around when bus service can’t meet their needs. 
Vans are driven by Metro approved volunteer drivers and are dependent on volunteer availability. They can travel anywhere within a two-hour destination.

Deer Park Dial-A-Ride picks up riders at their home within Deer Park and offers transportation within the city limits of Deer Park. Schedule 24 hours to 2 weeks in advance. Drivers are able to assist riders with getting in and out of the shuttle and to help move rider's packages on and off the bus. Accessible for wheelchairs and people with disabilities.

Deer Park Dial-A-Ride offered at Special Mobility Services

Programs that provide transportation for medical appointments, trips from and between hospitals, to nursing homes or other special-care centers or for other non-emergency medical needs for individuals who, because of financial problems or their physical condition, are unable to use other means of local transportation. NEMT service providers are able to transport riders who require a wheelchair lift equipped vehicle with appropriate protective restraints or a van that is designed for gurney/stretcher transportation, or has other types of features to meet their safety needs.

Non-Emergency Medical Transportation

Programs that provide door-to-door (or curb-to-curb) transportation for purposes of shopping, banking, social events, medical appointments, getting to and from work, and similar activities for people with disabilities who need special accommodations and are unable to utilize other available means of transportation. Also included are programs that provide transportation for youngsters with disabilities who have no other means of accessing necessary specialized services and activities. Some but not all vehicles used for this purpose are equipped with wheelchair lifts.
