Kitsap Legal Services works with volunteer attorneys who will give legal advice and limited assistance to low-income Kitsap County residents.. All legal consultations are by appointment only and potential clients must go through the eligibility process. Currently, most legal appointments are occurring by phone or Zoom. There is often a waiting period of several weeks for an appointment and we typically CANNOT provide an attorney to go with you to court. If you are facing eviction, and you meet eligibility requirements, we may be able to provide an attorney to immediately represent you.

Services include: - Credit and debt counseling. - Bankruptcy counseling. - Housing counseling (pre-purchase, foreclosure prevention, and reverse mortgage). - Student loan debt counseling. - Debt management plans. - Credit report reviews. - Foreclosure information. - Tips for first-time veteran and military homebuyers.

Staff or volunteer attorneys provide potential Chapter 7 Bankruptcy filers with the information and forms necessary to successfully file for Chapter 7 Bankruptcy on their own. There is a bi-monthly Bankruptcy Prep Clinic that provides information about preparing to file a Chapter 7 case, and a monthly Bankruptcy Forms Clinic that provides a review of the bankruptcy forms that will be filed with the court. In addition to the prep and form clinics, a staff attorney is available to confer individually with clients as needed.

Helps clients fulfill the federal requirements for the bankruptcy approval process.   Certified credit counselors work one-on-one with clients to develop a detailed personal financial assessment, a reasonable and manageable spending plan, a detailed action plan, and short and long-term financial goals. Volunteer bankruptcy lawyers meet individually with debtor clients who are considering or have already applied for bankruptcy as well as those who need assistance with other debt issues. Assists Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 litigants. Clinic attorneys can: - Determine whether the client has a legal problem - Suggest possible options - Help answer papers, summons and requests - Provide appropriate referrals Clinic attorneys are specialized in areas of debt and bankruptcy law. Attorneys CANNOT give advice on criminal legal issues or provide representation on any legal matters. To apply for an appointment: Fill out the online Client Intake Form on website. Those who cannot use the client intake form may call and leave a message with name, phone number, and a brief description of their legal issue.

Hosts a legal clinic specifically designed to address the needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals and couples. This clinic is run by QLaw Foundation in partnership with the King County Bar Association. The clinic is open to everyone regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. At the clinic, an attorney will meet with clients for 30 minutes and provide individualized legal advice and information. Clinic attorneys will answer questions and provide information in a variety of areas including family law, immigration, debt and bankruptcy, divorce/dissolution, employment discrimination, and transgender legal issues.

Service includes: Consultation/ evaluation, preparation and filing of petition, preparation for and attendance at Meeting of Creditors, and brief advice for related issues arising during the course of the bankruptcy.    Services for related issues that arise, such as adversary proceedings and motion practice are NOT included as part of the bankruptcy package and may require additional fees.

LAW Advocates matches low-income people struggling with debt with volunteer attorneys to provide advice and representation in bankruptcy, if appropriate.

We offer an online course that meets the requirements which mandates completion of an instructional/education course in personal financial management in order for an individual chapter 7 or 13 debtor to receive a bankruptcy discharge.

The pre-bankruptcy counseling process will entail a 60-90min counseling session. It is designed to examine your current financial situation and provide you with options that will help you make an informed decision regarding your financial difficulties. During the counseling session, one of our certified credit counselors will work with you to determine what your current income and assets are versus your monthly liabilities. This information will then be used to create an accurate and detailed monthly budget to provide you with a clear and concise snapshot of your overall financial situation.   At the end of the counseling process the counselor will provide you with a certificate showing your participation and completion of the pre-bankruptcy counseling session. This certificate will enable you to complete the bankruptcy process.

Chinese Information and Service Center, Asian Bar Association of Washington, and Asian Counseling and Referral Service partner with the King County Bar Association to provide a free legal clinic. Pro bono attorneys work with staff and volunteer interpreters to give consultation and legal advice around family law, immigration law, landlord-tenant disputes, employment law, and other areas.
