Provides services and programs that help people who have been released from a correctional facility make a successful transition to community life. Services include individual case management, assistance finding transition housing, job readiness, college application assistance and support, and mentoring.

Program Details: 
-  Education: Supports people who recently came out of jail with felony charges in getting their GED or getting into and completing vocational programs at Walla Walla College. Once successfully enrolled, they are entered in a tuition, fee, and supplies loan program that enable clients to successfully start their programs while waiting for their financial aid to be disbursed. 
-  Employment: Helps clients with job readiness, resumes, cover letters, and referrals to WorkSource, Blue Mountain Action Council, and the Department of Vocational Rehab. An employment transition specialist will help with job readiness. 
-  General Case Management: Assists individuals who have been/are incarcerated for a felony with support and planning a smooth transition in the community. 
-  Housing Assistance: Finds stable, livable, and affordable housing for ex-offender. Helps clients through other housing assistance programs, including veterans, as well as those serving seniors and the disabled.

Reentry Program offered at The Star Project

Provides services and programs that help people who have been released from a correctional facility make a successful transition to community life.

Programs that provide instruction for adults and eligible minors who have elected to take a series of tests which measure the extent to which they have gained the knowledge, skills and understanding ordinarily acquired through a high school education. Instruction and testing focus on writing, social studies, science, reading and mathematics. Individuals who pass the tests receive a high school equivalency certificate.

High School Equivalency/GED Test Instruction

Programs that develop plans for the evaluation, treatment and/or care of individuals who, because of age, illness, disability or other difficulties, need assistance in planning and arranging for services; which assess the individual's needs; coordinate the delivery of needed services; ensure that services are obtained in accordance with the case plan; and follow up and monitor progress to ensure that services are having a beneficial impact on the individual. Case management is a collaborative process characterized by communication, advocacy and resource management to promote high quality, cost-effective interventions and outcomes.

Case/Care Management

Programs that provide assistance for people who want to submit a petition requesting that the court order the official and formal sealing or erasure of records related to a particular criminal case maintained by police agencies at all levels, the prosecuting attorney's office, the office of the clerk of the court and/or agencies that are part of the criminal correctional system. Most jurisdictions have laws that permit, even mandate, the sealing or expungement of juvenile records as well as statutes that relate to adult records and the conditions under which they may be cleared.

Criminal Record Expungement Assistance

Programs that help people who have been released from a correctional facility (also known as returning citizens) make a successful transition to community life. Services generally include an assessment of the individual's needs, discussion of options and short-term case management involving coordination of needed services which may include housing location assistance, job training, job placement and retention services, legal assistance, literacy skills development, GED or other high school equivalency courses, parenting classes, life skills training, access to food and shelter resources, and other sources of support.

Ex-Offender Reentry Programs

Programs that provide comprehensive support services for ex-offenders (also known as returning or returned citizens) who need assistance preparing for, finding and retaining paid employment. Services may include vocational assessment; guidance relating to resume preparation, job application letters and questionnaires, interview techniques, appropriate dress and personal-social behaviors that will allow them to get along with employers and co-workers on the job; job skills development support; job placement assistance; limited periods of subsidized employment, where necessary; and/or on-the-job support, as required, by a personal case manager who may visit the individual while at work, meet with the person's supervisor and/or co-workers and provide whatever assistance the ex-offender needs to meet the challenges of entering the workforce and retain his or her position.

Ex-Offender Employment Programs

Programs that provide companionship, guidance and/or role models for adults who are disadvantaged because of age, income, physical or developmental disability or other personal problems and who need friendship and support to improve their personal and social functioning.

Adult Mentoring Programs

Community-based programs that provide congregate living arrangements and a wide variety of counseling and supportive services for ex-offenders (also known as returning citizens) who recently have been released from a correctional facility but who require a gradual transition from that highly structured and supervised way of a life to a relatively free and normal existence in the community.

Ex-Offender Halfway Houses

Programs that provide assistance for people who want to apply for amnesty under designated legislation or seek a pardon from the federal or state government for specific crimes under federal or state criminal law. The granting of a pardon to a person who has been convicted of a crime is an act of clemency which forgives the wrongdoer and restores his or her civil rights. At the federal level, the president has the power to grant a pardon, and at the state level the governor or a pardon board made up of high-ranking state officials may grant one. Full pardons are unconditional whereas other forms (commutations, conditional pardons, remissions and reprieves) are used to mitigate the individual's sentence. In the case of amnesty, the government grants an act of oblivion officially overlooking designated offenses, especially political offenses against a government, e.g., being in the country illegally, possessing contraband, being guilty of tax evasion. Amnesty generally occurs by statute under which convictions related to specified criminal offenses are erased and prosecutions are canceled. Unlike pardons, which apply to specific individuals, amnesty legislation applies to groups of people who fulfill the conditions or description laid down by the law. Amnesties do not erase a criminal act, condone or forgive it. They enable political reconciliation.
