Chinese Information and Service Center, Asian Bar Association of Washington, and Asian Counseling and Referral Service partner with the King County Bar Association to provide a free legal clinic.
Pro bono attorneys work with staff and volunteer interpreters to give consultation and legal advice around family law, immigration law, landlord-tenant disputes, employment law, and other areas. As of 9/2024, most consults are virtual but in-person appointments may be available if needed (more information provided to clients during intake phone call). Call (206) 957-8544 for an appointment. Appointments are typically Tuesdays, 5:30-7:30 PM.

Civil Protection Orders offered by King County Superior Court in Seattle
Issues the following orders: domestic violence protective/restraining orders, anti harassment/stalking protection orders, sexual assault protection orders, and vulnerable adult protection orders.
Issues the following protection/restraining orders:
Domestic Violence Protective/Restraining Orders Issues orders that protects the petitioner from abuse or threats of abuse from a current or former spouse, boyfriend/girlfriend, someone they have a child with, someone they live with or someone they are related to through blood or marriage.
No Contact Order Issues orders that protect victims of crime from contact with the person accused of committing the crime.
Incident must have been reported to the police.
Criminal charges must be pending.
The court may issue a no contact order as part of bail hearing, arraignment or sentencing.
Anti-harassment/Stalking Protection Orders Issues orders that will protect the petitioner from another person whose behavior is abusive, threatening, exploitative or seriously alarming.
The primary purpose is to order the "respondent" to not contact or harm the "petitioner. "
Sexual Assault Protection Orders Issues orders that can require the person who committed a sexual assault to stay away from their victim, their home, school, work or other places they request, and to have no further contact with them.
Vulnerable Adult Protection Order Issues orders that protects a vulnerable adult who has been abandoned, abused, subject to financial exploitation, or neglect or threat thereof.
Can be filed by an interested person on behalf of a vulnerable adult.

Washington State law allows for a person to file a civil case in court asking a judge/commissioner to grant an order to protect them from another person whose behavior is abusive, threatening, exploitative or seriously alarming. The primary purpose of most is to order the "respondent" to not contact or harm the "petitioner." There are different types of protection orders, intended for specific situations. State law establishes who can seek them, who they can protect, who they can restrain, the types of protections and relief they offer, when and where court hearings are conducted, what costs may be incurred.

Provides legal assistance with family law, will preparation, SSI, guardianship, power of attorney, protection orders, and credit issues.
Provides free legal assistance for low-income individuals who would otherwise be denied access to the legal system because of the inability to pay. Potential clients are screened to determine income and case eligibility. Referrals are made to local attorneys who volunteer their time.
Provides legal assistance with the following: Family Law (includes family law class to anyone who is seeking help in having their family law court documents reviewed), Debtor-Creditor, Bankruptcy, Social Security/ Disability, Wills/Power of Attorneys, Guardianship, Landlord/Tenant, Child Support, Immigration, and Protection Order.

This department processes and files the protection order paperwork. To download forms, type "protection order forms" in the search bar on the website. This office cannot give legal advice or provide assistance in filling out the forms.
Act as Judicial Administrator of the Superior Court. Maintain records and files on all Superior Court proceedings involving civil, domestic, felony criminal, civil commitment, probate, guardianship, paternity, adoption, and juvenile matters.
