Yakima Valley College offers applied bachelor’s degrees, transfer and professional technical degrees, as well as numerous certificate of achievement programs on both its Yakima and Grandview campuses. The college also provides College & Career Readiness classes for adults 16 or older. The primary emphasis of YVC's College & Career Readiness programs are to improve English language skills, computer technology skills, basic reading, writing, and math. These programs help prepare students for post-secondary education and job training. Classes may be individualized, computer assisted, or offered in small groups.
Students can:
- Earn a high school diploma
- Prepare to take a high school equivalency exam
- Upgrade academic skills to succeed in college programs
- Gain skills needed to find employment
Services are offered at both the Yakima and Grandview campuses and learning centers in Toppenish and Ellensburg.

One-on-one tutoring or group classes for reading and writing, ESL, and citizenship.
Operates under the philosophy of "Each one, teach one"
Provides individual tutors to help adults learn and improve basic reading and writing skills, and provides one-on-one tutoring in English as a Second Language.
Learners meet with the tutor in a mutually agreeable public place, such as a library.
Learner and tutor decide together the days times to meet.
Also offers group classes. Small classes are also offered at several locations around Pierce County. The TALC website has additional information about the locations and times for those classes.

Basic Education for Adults offered at Sound Learning
Instruction in reading, writing, math, GED preparation, High School 21+, and English for Speakers of Other Languages.
Staff and trained volunteers provide distance and in-person small group instruction in reading, writing, math, High School + diploma, GED, and/ or academic skills upgrade to prepare for training, college, or work. Students' goals and priorities are incorporated into instruction. Digital literacy and employability skills are incorporated into instruction. We offer in-person, hybrid in-person and distance, and some distance options. We serve out of school youth age 16yrs and older. If you are under 19, you must have a signed release from the HS or district where you live. We work to provide individualized study plans along with small group experiences in order for students to get a full range of support and encouragement to be on the path to their education, work, and life goals.
