Alexandria’s House is a transitional living facility for pregnant and parenting teenagers and their babies. The home has five furnished bedrooms, three bathrooms as well as shared kitchen, living and laundry facilities. Alexandria’s House offers comprehensive case management and 24-hour staff supervision and is licensed by the state of Washington.

Infants get a healthy start with prenatal and well-baby care. Moms (age 16-19) get vital parenting training, gather essential skills for living successfully on their own and are empowered to continue their progress in treatment, education and employment.

Programs offered by hospitals and other medical facilities that match pregnant individuals with a maternity navigator who will act as a personal coach, advocate and friend through pregnancy and sometimes into parenthood with the objective of helping the individual and their partner have the best pregnancy, labor and delivery experience possible.  Maternity navigators discuss health risks that may impact the individual's pregnancy, different options for childbirth and prenatal classes, and any concerns the pregnant individual may have during their pregnancy. The navigator may also be available following the birth of the child to answer post-birth questions and address other concerns such as the baby blues and signs of postpartum depression, frustrations with breastfeeding and suggestions regarding parental support groups and other resources.

Maternity Navigation Services

Programs that provide shelter, care and support services, which often include counseling regarding future plans and instruction in child care and development, for pregnant individuals who are unable to remain in their own homes.

Maternity Homes

Programs that teach skills that enable parents to deal constructively and consistently with a broad spectrum of child rearing problems which may include sibling rivalry; school behavior and performance; poor self-esteem; shyness; drug use; sexual promiscuity; and the whole range of negative, acting-out behaviors including whining, temper tantrums, disobedience, insolence and destructiveness. Some parenting skills development programs utilize a step-by-step approach for managing specific problems and may incorporate application at home of techniques that were discussed and practiced in the classroom setting. Other programs may offer participatory family workshops which provide opportunities for parents and children to learn and practice methods for dealing with one another under the guidance of a trained facilitator. Most training programs teach the parent a particular way of talking and relating to their children that reinforces positive behaviors and communication and decreases negative behaviors while supporting the development of a relationship that is built on fairness, mutual caring and respect.

Parenting Skills Classes

Programs that provide a safe, secure living environment and supportive services (which may include educational opportunities, life skills training, financial planning, parenting education and counseling) for single mothers and their infants following birth. The objective of the program is to help residents become self-sufficient and move ahead with their lives by finishing school, acquiring job skills and learning to be good parents.
