Communicable Disease and Immunizations offered at Kitsap Public Health District

The Communicable Disease Health Program provides childhood and adult immunizations and tuberculosis (TB) tests.  No child is denied immunizations due to the inability to pay.

Programs that identify individuals who have contracted tuberculosis by administering chest x-rays; the Mantoux test, the von Pirquet test or the Vollmer patch test, all of which determine the presence of a tuberculosis infection based on a local inflammatory reaction to a sample of the bacillus which has been injected or rubbed into the skin; or other screening tools.

Tuberculosis Screening

Programs that provide comprehensive treatment services for people who have tuberculosis.

Tuberculosis Clinics

Programs that attempt to control the occurrence of rabies by monitoring the incidence of the disease in bats, coyotes, skunks and other wild animal populations that are susceptible; locating and isolating animals who are suspected of having rabies; and locating and treating people who have been bitten by an animal who may have been rabid.

Rabies Control

Programs that inoculate susceptible individuals of all ages, but particularly people who are very young or very old, to prevent them from contracting any of the variant strains of influenza that are prevalent during the winter and spring. The vaccine may be administered as a "shot" that is given with a needle, usually in the arm, or in the form of a nasal mist.

Flu Vaccines

Programs that inoculate the general population to prevent individuals from contracting diseases to which they are particularly susceptible, or to prevent infecting others at greater risk of severe illness, including newborns and young children, people who could become pregnant, older adults, and/or travelers, rather than specializing in a particular type of immunization.

General Immunization

Programs that inoculate infants and young children to prevent them from contracting diseases to which they are particularly susceptible including diphtheria, tetanus (lockjaw), measles, mumps, chicken pox (varicella), rubella (German measles), whooping cough (pertussis), Hib (haemophilus influenzae type B), hepatitis B, pneumococcal infections and polio. Hepatitis A vaccine is recommended for use in selected locales and for certain high-risk groups. Influenza vaccine is recommended annually for children older than six months with specific risk factors. Rotavirus vaccination (to prevent acute gastroenteritis with vomiting and severe diarrhea) is recommended during the first year of infancy. A baby should receive two or three doses depending on the brand used. Some childhood immunizations involve a series of doses at specific intervals.

Childhood Immunization

Programs that control the occurrence of tuberculosis by monitoring the incidence of the disease in the general population, investigating individual outbreaks and identifying and screening recent contacts of people who are infected to stop the spread of the disease.

Tuberculosis Control

Provides case management and treatment services for active tuberculosis patients as well as those who have come in contact with infectious cases.  
Cannot provide skin tests but maintains a map of testing and treatment locations on website.

Tuberculosis Reporting and Case Management offered by Public Health - Seattle & King County at Harborview Medical Center

Offers treatment services for active tuberculosis patients and case management for homeless and at-risk individuals and families diagnosed with tuberculosis. Cannot provide skin tests. Maintains lists of testing and treatment locations on website.

Provides a program which administers information and treatment for active Tuberculosis.

Tuberculosis Program offered at Mason County Public Health and Human Services - Community and Family Health

Provides a clinic which administers information and treatment for active Tuberculosis.
