Sherwood supports high school students and adults with disabilities who are seeking employment. Sherwood strives to not only place people in jobs, but to ensure they are in jobs they love. We assist with the job search, seek employers, assess and train adults, and provide support for integration into the workplace. We first assess his/her abilities and goals and work with employers to find a successful fit for that individual’s unique abilities and skill-set. Sherwood provides ongoing coaching to the employee and employer to ensure long-term success. We believe that every individual with a disability should have an opportunity for meaningful employment that uses their abilities to the highest level and offers a competitive wage. A job leads to increased economic independence, community integration and greater self-worth.

Offers services to help participants successfully integrate into the community through employment. Includes employment services, behavioral health services and care coordination. Provides vocational evaluations to identify realistic career options and work abilities. Offers job seeking skills training, which prepares clients to apply, interview, and secure a job. Additionally provides job search assistance as well as job retention services once a client has obtained a job. Behavioral health services include psycho-socio assessments, to identify emotional issues, cognitive skills, barriers, and academic abilities as well as counseling, case management and recovery services. Care coordinators are available to assist participants with navigating and integrating their health care and social service needs.

Provides a wide range of services for individuals who are looking for employment. Services include: - Individualized job search assistance - Case management - Job readiness training - Career counseling - Vocational Assessment - Job fairs - Career development workshops - Computer skills instruction Provides weekly orientation classes that provide an overview of the resources and programs available to job seekers. Provides access to community and technical college programs and financial resources for retraining. Matches businesses with qualified applicants to fill open positions. Employers may post job openings online. Other services for employers include help with workplace consultations, recruitment and layoffs and information on business, industry and economic trends.

Placement specialist assists clients in job placement. Follow-up continues for at least three months.

Provides a wide range of employment and training counseling and services for youth, adults, and dislocated workers; including training, education, and support they may need to pursue their career and succeed in the workforce. Programs: - Basic Food Employment and Training (BFET): Training services provide resume writing, interview skills, assistance with starting a career, and job search assistance, BFET provides employment readiness opportunities to Basic Food (SNAP) recipients who are not receiving Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF). - Dislocated Worker (WIOA): Services include career transition counseling, tuition assistance, paid business internships, and on the job training. Workers must be laid off due to no fault of their own and eligible for UI (company closure, downsize, skill no longer in demand, etc.). Special funding and programming is available for those who have lost their jobs due to COVID-19. - Low-Income Adult Services: Provides employment and training services to low-income adults ages 18-72, with a priority to veterans, TANF recipients, those who do not have a HS diploma or GED, and those who are not financially self-sufficient. Services include career exploration, tuition assistance, paid on the job training and internships, emergency support and ongoing counseling through job retention. - Youth Services: Offers paid job & career training, educational assistance, (GED, HS Diploma, Post-Secondary), certification & credential options, job search assistance, tuition assistance, paid work experience for youth 16-24 yrs of age, and are a WA State ID holder & resident. The goal is to help youth identify a career pathway and gain the skills they need to be successful in that pathway. - WorkFirst: Provides parents the opportunity to gain job skills and experience through a variety of work readiness programs, such as the Community Jobs (CJ) and Career Jump. - Quality Jobs, Equity, Strategy, and Training (QUEST): connects individuals most affected by the pandemic—– women, tribal members, people of color, people with disabilities, even lower-wage workers—to quality training and employment. Trained representatives from various employment agencies are available to assist eligible individuals with employment readiness training, job searches, completing job applications, updating resumes, interview preparation/practice, and job retention to assist the participant and employer to agree on satisfactory job performance. Offers a free eight-week program consisting of job training and job placement assistance, as well as ongoing career coaching for career advancement in the financial services sector. Services also include banking career navigation assistance, coaching, mentoring, career advancement and job retention support for up to one year after placement. Assists Burien residents experiencing housing and economic instability. Targets those who are at risk of homelessness and/or facing imminent risk of eviction. Program participants will be required to work with employment services staff to either find a job or increase income.

Administers the Jobs for Veteran State Grant program, a nationwide program designed to provide assistance to veterans transitioning from one career to another. Provides counseling, resources, employment connections, community partnership advocacy and virtual tools to assist in meeting the veterans’ preferred transitional career goals. Gives veterans and their spouses priority access to WorkSource services, including the following: -  Job listings, job referrals and hiring events for private sector, city, state and Federal careers -  Job coaching for resume, application perfecting, strategies for success, wage negotiations and interviewing assistance -  Use of computers, photocopiers and phones onsite -  Skill assessments and referrals to training and other resources   In addition, the Disabled Veterans Outreach Program provides intensive case management and employment readiness services to transitioning service members, veterans and qualifying spouses with significant barriers to employment.   Local Veterans Employment Representatives Conduct outreach to employers to promote the recruitment and hiring of veterans; partner with Department of Veterans Affairs and Department of Commerce to implement employer campaigns to hire veterans and inform federal contractors on process and requirements for recruitment of veterans.

Available to Medicaid recipients who have struggled with mental health and/or addiction, currently or in their past who are looking for support to get back into the workforce, start a new career or seek out educational opportunities.

Designed to help individuals gain the skills and abilities they need to get and keep "family wage" jobs. Services are free and customized to meet individual needs. Individuals work one-on-one with their employment representatives to meet their employment goals. Services available include: skills training, paid work experience and vocational education, help with resumes and cover letters, workshops on interviewing, job searching, demand occupations, GED preparation and testing, career counseling, guidance and employment referrals, and referral to community resources.

Not all services offered at all locations:   Community Jobs Initiative (CJI)   Offers paid (minimum wage) internships to job seekers looking to build skills for employment.   Participants must currently receive TANF cash assistance of DSHS - Community Services Office.   This program is implemented through extensive partnerships among state agencies (including DSHS, Employment Security, and the Board of Community and Technical Colleges).    Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Placement Services (DVR).   Provides vocational assessment, internship development, and monitoring and job placement services for adults with disabilities who are referred by DSHS - DVR counselors. Limited English Pathway Placement Services   Offers job readiness workshops, job placement services, skills trainings, and job retention and county wage progression services as well as English language class referrals for King and Snohomish adults with limited English. Participants must be at least 18 years old and either a refugee with documentation or currently receive TANF cash assistance from DSHS - Community Services Offices.   This is a program of DSHS and the Office of Refugee and Immigrant Assistance (ORIA).    Veterans Administration Placement Services Employment and training assessment, job placement and job retention services for service connected disabled veterans referred by the Veterans Administration. Contact Harriet Klein (206) 443-9999 for more information.    Workers Compensation Services  Provides vocational assessment, vocational plan development, and monitoring of vocational training programs for injured workers referred by Washington State Labor and Industries Department, including the Office of Workers Compensation Programs.     Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Adult Services/Dislocated Worker Services. Provides job readiness workshops, job placement services, vocational training, and job retention services for adults.

Voluntary program helps DSHS clients find and keep gainful employment. Navigators helps clients access education, employment and training services that are provided by workforce development partners. Navigators also stay in touch with participants for one year after becoming employed, assisting with any needs that may arise.

Offers an employment training program where participants register for a six-week training plan that is tailored to the participants needs.Participants are assigned staff as mentors; this is a hands on job training. At the end of six weeks, participants have gained or improved the following skills: - Time management - Team player - Communication - Customer service - Organization skills - Problem solving - Accountability

All work is focused around the individual consumer's personal goals.

Provides a no-cost, easy enrollment, job search center where anyone from the community can get help with job seeking and building computer skills. Job seekers can work with staff to build resumes, cover letters, find job leads, practice interviewing preparation, and more. Computer classes are offered on a weekly basis on topics for first time computer users, to classes for developing skills for working in office environments, also available in 1 on 1 appointments. Services are completely free, thanks to donations and purchases at Goodwill retail stores.
