Non-Emergency Reporting offered by Seattle Police Department at Headquarters

Operates a phone line which allows Seattle residents to contact police about non-emergency matters or provide knowledge that would assist a police investigation. Also performs welfare checks.

Programs that handle reports of people who have disappeared, assist people who need to locate an individual who has been reported as missing or with whom contact has been lost and/or help relatives establish that a missing individual has, in fact, died. Also included are programs that take and/or follow up on reports of sightings of people reported as missing.

Missing Persons Location Assistance

Programs that provide a hotline, website or other mechanisms that people can use to report instances in which someone fraudulently obtains private information about an individual, e.g., his or her Social Security number, uses it to apply for credit in that person's name, runs up large bills and then disappears without paying the bills leaving the victim with ruined credit. Identity thieves may also purchase expensive medical services in the victim's name, or give the victim's name and personal information to a law enforcement officer leaving the individual subject to arrest. Identity thieves may also steal the identities of individuals who are deceased. Also included are programs that help identity theft victims re-establish their identity and credit standing.

Identity Theft Reporting/Recovery Programs

Programs, generally staffed by social workers or professionals trained in aging, who make home visits on a one time, intermittent or sporadic basis to check on the well-being of older adults and/or people with disabilities, usually at the request of family members who are long distance caregivers. Also included are local police departments or other organizations that make home visits upon request when concern has been expressed regarding a person's current health or personal safety.

In Person Reassurance/Monitoring Programs

Law enforcement programs that prevent crimes that have been planned when tip information makes this possible; intervene to stop crimes that are in progress; and examine the circumstances surrounding an alleged crime or other infraction of the law and determine whether a crime was committed, the nature of the crime, the identity of the victim, the means employed, the time and location of its occurrence, the identity of the offender, the validity of any allegations, the conclusiveness of the evidence and the appropriate course of action.

Crime Investigation

Programs that provide a hotline, website or other mechanism that people can use to report inscriptions, designs and other markings that deface buildings, walls, rocks and other artifacts or natural structures.

Graffiti Reporting

Programs that provide a hotline, website or other mechanisms that people can use to report prostitution, lewd or lascivious behavior, public drunkenness, illegal gambling, drug-related loitering or other drug-related criminal activity, accumulations of garbage, castoff materials, junk cars or other conditions that disturb the peace, are dangerous to health or safety, are offensive to community moral standards or that obstruct the public from the free use of public property. The concept of "public nuisance" varies considerably from community to community. As a consequence, activities that are addressed by public nuisance laws in one community may be covered by zoning laws in another.

Public Nuisance Reporting

Programs operated by organizations such as utility companies, departments of sanitation and local post offices that ask employees who work in residential neighborhoods on a regular basis (reading gas, electric and water meters, collecting refuse or delivering mail) to check on residents who are frail elderly or have disabilities and request an investigation by the appropriate authorities if the individual's normal routines have suddenly changed, e.g., if the person's mail has not been picked up on a regular basis. Also included are police departments and other organizations that conduct regular welfare checks in situations where people have requested the service. Training in what to look for is often provided by organizations in the community that work with older adults and people with disabilities.

Gatekeeper Alert Programs

Offers an injury and illness prevention program to assist community members with issues before they become an emergency. 
Helps residents navigate the social service network and advocates with insurance providers and other health care professionals.
