Provides services to teenagers or women who are pregnant and parent/caregivers of children birth-5 years of age by addressing basic needs. Offers counseling to girls or women facing an unplanned pregnancy, including: pregnancy testing; intake and assessment; volunteer mentors for moms and dads; parent support services; support groups and classes for parents and families; rapid response and referrals for urgent needs like food, formula, diapers and clothing; and adoption support and referrals.

Offers a variety of classes on pregnancy, labor, birth, breastfeeding and parenting, in-person or on zoom. Technology equipment available for people to attend the classes. BASIC CHILDBIRTH PREPARATION CLASS:   Addresses the last months of pregnancy, childbirth and early postpartum.   Teaches relaxation and breathing techniques.   Class meets for seven sessions before the birth and one postpartum reunion class.   LABOR AND BIRTH:   This short course is to prepare for or review childbirth.   Meets for one eight hour class or two four-hour sessions. BREASTFEEDING CLASS:   Offers helpful hints and information on breast feeding for expectant and new mothers; babies are welcome.   Private classes may be available. SIBLING CLASS:   Prepares children ages 2. 5 to 7 for the pregnancy, birth and homecoming of a new family member.   BABYSAFE AND INFANT CPR:   Infant safety class for new and expectant parents and other caregivers who want to learn infant CPR and ways to prevent accidents and/or injuries for the baby younger than one year of age.   NEWBORN CARE CLASS:   Offers information about baby care during the first weeks of life, including diapering, cord care, bathing and comforting.

Provides a partnership with registered nurses. Nurses do in-home visits with health and developmental screenings to identify potential problems with growth, hearing, social-emotional development, oral health, and other issues. Additionally, they may offer support with breastfeeding, parenting skills, and other general parent education. Visits will continue until the child reaches 2 years of age.

Helps new or soon-to-be parents learn about entitlements, pay increases, expenses, and budgeting to adapt to the family's new financial situation.  Individual and virtual counseling is available. Handmade blanket and Amazon gift card given at the end of class.

Parents as Teachers Partners with parents to support their child’s growth and development. Twice-monthly visits focus on learning through play, understanding the stages of child development, helping through the inevitable challenges of parenting, and supporting overall family well-being. Kaleidoscope Play & Learn Also offers weekly, bi-lingual playgroups. Parent Cafe's Playgroups include open play time, art projects, structured movement or song time, stories, parent support/coaching, and time to connect with other adults. Welcome Baby Boxes Gives parents essential supplies for their new babies. The baby box includes a sleep sack, washcloths, a Vashon onesie, and a hand-made quilt, along with parenting books and a Thriftway gift card. Clothing, diapers and some baby supplies are also available.

Provides individualized education and counseling services for women and their partners before and after birth.   Offers the Parental Support Services case management program for low-income people who receive state medical assistance.   Team includes a nurse, nutritionist and a social worker.

Provides clients with incentives to learn life skills as they earn "Baby Bucks" to spend in the "Baby Boutique" on items they need. Once enrolled, a client works with an advocate to choose a curriculum that fits their needs and interests.  Clients earn "Baby Bucks" while they learn how to be better parents.   There are programs available in financial planning, relationship building and communications tools. Available resources includes: layettes, diapers, wipes, clothing - sizes infant to 2T,  car seats, cribs and baby furniture.

Parent Child Health supports families in Kitsap with multiple programs. Our staff is available to provide referrals and guidance to all pregnant and parenting families in the county in multiple languages. A free, personal nurse for first time, low income mothers. New mothers receive support, education and valuable resources to be the best parent they can be.

Public Health Nurses can provide information regarding needs related to pregnancy and health concerns. Behavioral Health Specialist/Social Worker can provide home-based psychosocial assessments and referrals, counseling, conflict resolution, anger management, physical/mental abuse, chemical dependency, depression and relationships. Nutritionists are avalable to provide clinic or home-based nutrition assessments, education, and counseling.

Family Companions: provide an opportunity for a pregnant or parenting family to be matched with a trained family companion volunteer who gives the family ongoing support and encouragement. Find comfort and guidance with the support of a family companion who has walked the path of parenthood and empathize with its joys and struggles. Play and Learn Groups: facilitates play groups to support early brain development and kindergarten readiness: play group curriculum is based on the latest research in early childhood brain development and family engagement. Play groups give parents and informal caregivers a free, accessible place to meet other families and get support. Sessions are held weekly in community spaces in the child’s own neighborhood and language. Parents as Teachers (PAT): develops curricula, trains early childhood professionals, and certifies parent educators to work with parents to provide them with parenting support and information on their developing child. Maternity Support Services (Part of First Steps): Helps people have healthy pregnancies and recover from pregnancy. Coordinates support until the baby is two months old, and provides breast/chestfeeding support by: - Health education and counseling. - Regular visits in the clinic, by phone or video, or in the client’s home or community setting. - Support beyond the doctor or midwife, including nurses, nutritionists, social workers and community health workers. - Referrals to OB care, WIC, health insurance and other community resources. Infant Case Management (Part of First Steps): - Provides support and guidance from the time the baby is 2-3 months old through baby’s first birthday (for those who qualify). - Helps clients become self-sufficient in gaining access to medical, social, educational and other services they might need. Nurse Family Partnership: Public health nurses provide care coordination services through home or community visits or on the telephone - Partners pregnant people with registered nurses from pregnancy through their child’s 2nd birthday - Delivers the support first-time parents need to have a healthy pregnancy, a healthy birth, and a healthy infancy for the baby. Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs: Public health nurses provide care coordination services through home or community visits or on the telephone. Services include: - Developmental screenings and assessments - Help with concerns such as feeding, nutrition, growth, development and behavior. - Help connect CYSHCN families to the health and related services they need to thrive. Family Ways: - Provides culturally relevant peer support for three community groups: Native American/Alaska Natives, Pacific Islander/Native Hawaiian, and U.S. born Black/African Americans from pregnancy through age 5. - Supports clients with pregnancy, parenting, community-connections and resource navigation - Registered Dietitian, Social Worker, and Public Health Nurse available for consultation and coaching
