The Kinship Care Program assists relatives acting as parents or guardians of minor children by providing information, referrals to support groups, counseling and potential financial assistance for basic needs such as school supplies, rent/utilities, and tutoring.

Kinship Caregivers are family members who provide primary care for children whose own parents are unable to care for them.

Assists kinship families in locating needed resources and services. The Navigator can accompany the family to CPS, Family Court, and School IEP Meetings to provide support and reassurance. The Navigator administers the Kinship Caregiver Support Program through one time financial grants to low-income Kinship Families. The Navigator is not an attorney and unable to provide legal advice or assist in completing any legal paperwork .

Provides case management and emotional support for relative caregivers to children.   Offers a safe place for grandparents and other relatives to share concerns, joys and resources associated with the unique responsibility of raising children again. Home visits available.   Offers quarterly social activities for the whole family.

Support group meets at various times and locations in Thurston, Mason and Lewis Counties.  Child care is available for children ages 3 through 11 years old with registration.

Kinship (Non-Parent Guardian Navigation): helps guardians or caregivers understand and navigate the services available to children living in their care. Navigator is available to help kinship caregivers with information about resources for legal assistance; assistance applying for Federal and State subsidies; locating or maintaining child care; navigating through the educational system, and advocacy and referrals to medical, dental, and mental health services. Foster Teen & Young Adult Programs: provides programs that guide and support foster youth between the ages of 14-23, as they transition from foster care to self-sufficiency. Through group trainings, one-on-one coaching, and adult and peer mentors, youth receive support to pursue their education, train for employment, learn financial literacy, and develop critical life skills such as creating healthy relationships, self-advocacy, and maintaining support networks. Also assist homeless youth and youth ages 18-24, who have transitioned from foster care with obtaining and maintaining housing. Helps youth in setting and achieving personal goals related to living independently.

Holds an annual caregiver conference as well as seven mini conferences around the state each year. Connects foster parents to online and in person support groups and local foster parent associations.

Atlantic Street Center gives these older caregivers a chance to thrive through our Kinship Care Support Group. At our Youth & Family Center, we provide emotional support through group meetings, events, and workshops. These meetups help our kinship families find a sense of community with similar families, as well as give family units a chance to bond, learn together, and gain access to specific resources. The Kinship Care Support Group is part of the Atlantic Street Center Youth Development & Education Support Program.

Provides monthly structured discussion groups, socialization opportunities, and educational programming about common issues for grandfamilies, which includes strategies for supporting relative children of all ages, abilities, and identities, specialized information and referral services with connections to community resources.
