Provides diagnosis, treatment and ongoing care for patients who have progressive disorders that cause amnesia and dementia such as Alzheimer’s disease or Parkinson’s disease. Physicians, neuropsychologists and nurse practitioners specialize in diagnosing those patients whose illness is progressing rapidly or those who are experiencing symptoms at a young age. Prefers to see patients at the beginning of these problems, including those experiencing very mild cognitive impairment, because accurate and early diagnosis means more time to plan, more time to participate in research, and the opportunity to participate in decisions about care. Combines customized care, education about each patient’s options and ongoing support to ensure patients receive the right treatment and the appropriate follow-up care.

Coordinates trained volunteers who call or meet Snohomish County seniors in person weekly to discuss transitions and coping with stress, sadness, and other life challenges.

Provides culturally appropriate counseling and therapy for older adults with mental health needs. Addresses behavioral health conditions among the elderly with severe cognitive issues, mood disorders, and emotional impairment that affect their daily functions. Helps patients improve their ability to function, develop successful coping strategies, and improve their social and life skills. Evaluates for possible triggers for mental illness in the elderly including: - Physical disability - Long-term illness (e. g. , heart disease or cancer) - Dementia-causing illness (e. g. Alzheimer’s disease) - Physical illnesses that can affect thought, memory, and emotion (e. g. thyroid or adrenal disease) - Change of environment, like moving into assisted living, nursing home or adult family home setting. - The emotional impact of the loss of a loved one - Medication interactions and potential side effects - Alcohol or substance use patterns. - Poor diet or malnutrition. - Cultural factors that may impact the individual´s level of functioning

Provides outreach, community education, support groups, evaluations and counseling to individuals, children, couples and families to promote mental, physical, spiritual, and cultural well- being through assistance with communication skills, wellness, self-esteem, post-traumatic stress disorder, life crisis, grief, oppression, depression, aging or illness and abuse issues.

An Outpatient Program for adults 55 years and older who are experiencing depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder or schizophrenia.   Assessment and treatment is for those with first time onset of the illness, or for those with lifelong or chronic illness.   Includes case management, group therapy, individual therapy, and family and caregiver support and education.

The PEARLS Program is a highly effective method designed to reduce depressive symptoms and improve quality of life in older adults. During six to eight in-home sessions that take place in the client's home and focus on brief behavioral techniques, PEARLS Program counselors empower individuals to take action and to make lasting changes so that they can lead more active and rewarding lives.

Assist patients with functional limitations and helps them regain their independence and the skills required for daily living and improved quality of life. Offers physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech-language therapy, and aquatic therapy.

Offers outpatient treatment in areas such as marriage and family problems, divorce, anxiety, depression, anger management, delayed stress, sexual abuse, loss and grief. Provides home-based services if necessary, particularly for children and older adults.

Focuses on strategies promoting a positive mood and healthy aging including lifestyle issues, stress management, assistance with medication issues, relaxation techniques, depression awareness, and community resources. Confidential in-home screening for depression is also available, with follow-up referral and advocacy support offered. Limited short-term counseling may be available.

Provides individual counseling for older adults through the Program to Encourage Active and Rewarding Lives for Seniors, or PEARLS. Program was developed by mental health specialists to address mild depression in veterans, their spouses, and older adults. In-home counseling is available to older adults who are isolated or cut off from other support services.

Community referrals will be made for situations that need more intensive psychological interventions. Also offers: - Legal Advisor 2nd M of the month. Appointments must be made in advance. - Caregiver Support Group 2nd and 4th Th, for caregivers of family members with Alzheimer’s or memory loss.

Social workers are available for individual counseling as well as leading support groups and outreach home visits. Support groups include diabetic support, aging well, caregiver support, low vision and support for other issues related to aging. Oversees our Westside Friends program through which volunteers visit elderly and disabled persons in their homes.
