The Emergency Preparedness Program works with the Grant County healthcare community and other community partners to respond to public health emergencies in Grant County and throughout North Central Washington (Chelan, Douglas, Kittitas & Okanogan Counties). Public health preparedness and response activities strengthen the public health and healthcare systems to handle emergencies of all sizes.

Provides emergency and response preparedness and homeland security planning.

Spokane County Emergency Management is the coordinating agency for the whole community during major emergencies and disasters.

FAST - Functional Assessment Service Team - Volunteers who are trained to help assess people with access and functional needs and assist them by getting what they need to stay in a community shelter, during a disaster. FAST teams work with emergency shelter personnel to conduct assessments for people with access and functional needs in community and American Red Cross emergency shelters within Pierce County. Teams support the process of acquiring potential resources for people with access and functional needs like durable medical equipment, consumable medical supplies, essential medications, communication access and personal assistants. Members must possess the knowledge, skills and abilities to work in their area of specialty, and have an in-depth knowledge of populations they serve, their cultures, and service networks.

Public and Environmental Health staff complete a variety of training to assist during an emergency. - Hold and attend community drills and full-scale exercises each year - Provide guidance on safety measures to the public when Air Quality is affected by wildfire, dust & volcanic ash - Manage and dispense medications during an outbreak such as influenza or a bioterrorism threat - Prepare Public advisories and guidance to protect citizens health

DEM is responsible for emergency management within Island County to include planning and coordinating actions for the mitigation, response to, and recovery from natural and man-caused emergencies and disasters.  DEM provides hazard information, coordinates and provides emergency training for county residents, and emergency responders.  DEM also operates the county Emergency Operations Center (EOC) when it is activated.

Offers information on emergency preparedness. Provides public education including educational materials and displays. Provides county Emergency Disaster Response and Recovery Coordinators. Offers mitigation assistance and intergovernmental disaster coordination.

Emergency Management means the preparation for and the carrying out of all emergency functions, to mitigate, prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies and disasters, and to aid victims suffering from injury or damage, resulting from disasters caused by all hazards, whether natural or man-made, and to provide support for search and rescue operations for persons and property in distress.

Provides public health emergency preparedness and response program prepares public health staff, health care providers and other community agencies to respond effectively to public health emergencies in Spokane County and the region. The program works closely with other emergency response agencies in Eastern Washington, North Idaho and British Columbia.
