The Housing Justice Project’s Appointed Counsel Team represents tenants in eviction hearings. If you are low income and have been served with a Summons and Complaint for Unlawful Detainer (Eviction), contact HJP right away. If you have a show cause hearing scheduled, COME TO YOUR HEARING so our Appointed Counsel attorneys will have a chance to provide you representation. The Housing Justice Project also provides tenants help with eviction notices, installment plans for move-in costs, move-out issues, deposits, repairs, disputes, habitability, discrimination, illegal lockouts, utility shutoffs, past evictions, criminal history/legal financial obligations on your record and more, including community outreach and education and work with community partners to remove barriers to becoming housed and staying housed.

Provides free legal assistance by phone for LGBTQ people and their legal advocates. Focuses on helping with custody disputes, separation or divorce, and immigration or asylum. Can potentially assist with other topics as well. Advocates for equitable public policies affecting the LGBTQ community, and conducts community education on LGBTQ issues.

LAW Advocates provides legal assistance on a wide-range of topics to low-income people in Whatcom County.  Services are provided through a variety of legal clinics and programs, as well as by placing cases with volunteer attorneys.  We do not provide assistance with criminal law matters.

Rural Resources helps older adults remain as independent and self sufficient as possible through programs including:Information and assistance, Case management, Respite care, and Family Caregiver Support.

Services may include representation at unemployment benefits administrative hearings, administrative appeals and Superior Court appeals. Will also provide administrative and Superior Court appeals advice to those who represented themselves at the administrative hearings.

Operates a toll-free, centralized intake, advice and referral service for low-income people seeking free legal assistance with civil legal problems. Provides verbal or written advice; written legal information or forms; resolution through negotiation; may refer to another provider for legal aid. Due to limited resources, lawyers and paralegals are not able to assist every caller. Services are targeted to problems that affect basic needs such as housing, income, medical care and family safety.

Provides legal education materials and tools that give basic information on a number of legal problems, and in some cases, detailed instructions and forms to help with self-representation. Provides information on free legal aid programs in Washington, including basic eligibility and contact information. Topics include family law, housing, domestic violence and anti-harassment, immigration, civil rights, consumer and debt, government benefits, health, youth law and education, employment/farm worker rights, Native American issues, and some criminal law issues, including record expungement and victim's rights.

The ACLU-WA participates in "impact litigation" designed to protect civil rights and civil liberties for large numbers of Washington residents. Does NOT typically provide legal representation to individual complainants and is not a general legal services provider. Through the Information and Referral Program (IRP), DOES provide: - "Know your rights" and legal self-help literature - Referrals to appropriate agencies and organizations In some areas of ACLU emphasis, is able to provide limited advocacy or more specialized advice. Partnership between Division of Child Support and House of Matthew. House of Matthew hosts employees from Child Support Enforcement who will provide information on how child support works. Will also answer questions on: - How to deal with child support while in prison, - When you should pay - How to obtain or modify a Child Support Order, - Learn the right amount you need to pay, - Know what to do when you can't pay Child Support, - Employment Pipeline offers employment resources to Homeward Bound graduates. Provides information to both the parent receiving support and the parent paying it. Class is held every 4th Monday of the month.

Provides over-the-phone legal information and advice for individuals who have criminal, CPS or APS issues.

Helps families navigate their way through family law court by helping them complete the necessary forms, prepare documents and learn how to represent themselves in court. Provides all the necessary forms as well as free photocopying and technology services. Offers weekend and evening legal workshops and clinics. Interactive, in-person format. At the conclusion of a workshop, the presenter(s) will be available to meet privately with those users who request a private coaching session.

Helps low-income community members help themselves with civil legal matters by providing legal education through clinics, classes, and in-court volunteers. The VLP's primary focus is Family Law, but the program also assists with certain housing, consumer, and bankruptcy issues.
