For example, they can find resources for free diapers, food, hygiene, furniture, pet care, childcare, legal help, immigration help, and free programs for the holidays (e.g., where to get Thanksgiving Meal or Christmas gifts).

Libraries or other organizations that provide online resources and/or search services for people who want to access a  wide range of digital information, materials, and services. A physical location such as a library may offer access to digitized content locally at a facility or remotely from any location online. Digital materials may include e-books, multimedia, digitized versions of articles and information from print sources such as magazines, newspapers, journals and reference books as well as music and other content.  Examples of digital service platforms and vendors include OCLC's (Online Computer Library Center) FirstSearch collection of databases, the National Library of Medicine's MEDLINE, the U.S. Department of Education's ERIC, LexisNexis, ProQuest, Ebsco and Gale/Cengage.

Programs that publish and distribute directories of agencies that provide human services for residents of the community and/or resource lists. Included are programs that produce directories/lists that focus on a specific geographical area, service category or target group as well as those that produce a comprehensive directory of all community resources.

Directory/Resource List Publication

Organizations whose members are usually residents of a particular community or neighborhood who work together to remedy deficiencies in existing neighborhood conditions or to enhance conditions that are currently satisfactory.

Provides information about parent support groups, children's playgroups, and family activities. Offers a community events calendar, and magazine as well.

Child-Friendly Events offered by PDX Parents

Programs that provide creative recreational experiences in cooperative indoor and/or outdoor group living for children, usually age four to 13, or adults who are transported to the site each morning and who return to their homes at the end of each day. Transportation may be provided by the program or may be the responsibility of the family.

Day Camps

Programs that develop, maintain and make available to the public facilities for cooperative group living experiences in the out-of-doors for families who may need a break from day-to-day living to enjoy some quality time together and reconnect as a family or who simply want a summer or holiday getaway. The programs offer a wide range of activities for individual family members or the family as a whole which may include cookouts, crafts, nature lore and conservation, and a wide range of indoor and outdoor recreational, athletic and group social activities.

Family Camps

Programs that offer a wide variety of activities including arts and crafts, academic programs, sports, reading clubs, workshops and other recreational, leisure, cultural, social and civic activities for school-age children and youth in out-of-school hours. The objective of youth enrichment programs is to promote healthy social interaction and help participants maximize their social, emotional, physical and academic potential.

Mutual support groups for parents who share a common characteristic or circumstance such as being single parents, dual career parents, multiple birth parents, parents with children who are out of control, or parents of children with disabilities, who come together for educational and social purposes as well as for mutual support. Meeting formats may include in-person, telephone or Internet options.

Summer Camps

Programs that provide regularly scheduled opportunities for parents to participate in a wide variety of recreational, arts and cultural activities with their youngsters. The experience provides a means for developing close family relationships at a stage in the child's life when quality time with their mother or father is essential for healthy development, and exposure to music, storytelling and similar pastimes can stir a child's imagination and spark their creativity. Other programs may focus on reading, games and early learning activities.
