Washington State law and the Kitsap County code have established the Veterans Assistance Fund as a steady source of tax dollars to be utilized for the needs of indigent veterans and their families.  A portion of property tax collected in Kitsap County is earmarked for the VAF.  The overall goal is to assist all veterans-in-the-need back into mainstream society by ensuring they understand all the programs available to them.  Temporary emergency assistance is available for:   Rental and mortgage assistance   Energy or utilities assistance   Food assistance   Transportation assistance   Medical and prescription coverage   Burial or cremation assistance   Auto repair   Appliance repair   Clothing

A program of the Department of Defense, provides free, confidential help and information by phone with a professionally trained consultant or online. The consultant will help you make a plan, provide customized research, refer you to helpful resources or mail you educational materials.    Consultants provide information on: -  Child care and parenting issues -  Deployment and reunion issues -  Education -  Elder care -  Money matters -  Legal issues -  Transition to civilian life -  Violence and trauma -  Relocation -  Health   -  Other topics    Can also coordinate free counseling non-medical services (up to 12 sessions per person, per issue), face-to-face in the local community, by telephone and online.

Assists with needs of traveling active-duty and retired armed services personnel and their dependents, by offering a place for rest and relaxation.   Provides food, sleeping bunks, showers and/or hygiene supplies; a nursery with toys and infant supplies; and/or a lounge with television, video games, library and Internet access. Occasionally provides financial assistance, to traveling military personnel only.   USO is staffed primarily by volunteers.

The Veterans Relief Fund may be able to help veterans or qualifying family members with a variety of needs including rent, utilities and food. Those applying must have been honorably discharged, have been a resident of Grays Harbor County for at least 6 months and have income below 200% of the federal poverty level.  All applications must be filed with local service officers at various post locations. Supplements existing Family program to support Service members and their families. Provides confidential short term, situational and problem-solving counseling services. Offers educational presentations, briefings and services to help prepare for the issues surrounding deployment, mobilization, post-deployment, and reunion.

Maintains an extensive resource file of local public, private and voluntary service agencies and organizations to assist individuals and families with getting assistance. Referral for WIC and food assistance.

The Family Service Center provides assistance to Command Ombudsmen, guidance to the Naval Station Everett Ombudsmen Assembly, and training workshops on basic and advanced Ombudsman topics.

The FFSP Deployment/Relocation Assistance Program (RAP) is designed to make the moving process as effortless as possible for service members and their families.
