Offers financial literacy classes, covering the following topics: Values, Budgeting, Goal Setting, Banking, Debt Reduction, Credit Repair, Consumerism, Insurance, Transportation, Home Ownership, Retirement and Investing. Classes, offered in both English and Spanish, meet once a week and are open to the public.

Financial Literacy Classes offered at Whatcom Dream

Programs that provide information and guidance for people who want to purchase securities or place money or property in business ventures, real estate or other investment plans for the purpose of earning profits. Included are programs that focus on wealth building through a combination of investments, debt reduction and savings to realize long or short-term financial goals which may include having an emergency fund, owning a home or a business, paying for a child's education or having enough money to live comfortably during retirement years.

Investment Counseling

Programs that help people who want to purchase a home evaluate their readiness for homeownership, shop for housing that meets their needs, resolve potential credit problems, analyze specific home purchase offers, obtain a mortgage loan with advantageous interest rates and an affordable monthly payment, and complete the paperwork to close the loan and complete the sale. Also included are programs that provide assistance for people who want to refinance a home.

Homebuyer/Home Purchase Counseling

Programs that provide educational workshops, printed materials, Internet website information or other types of resources for individuals, families, business owners and others that deal with the essentials of money management, asset building and financial independence. A wide variety of money management issues may be addressed including banking services, consumer credit lending, debt consolidation/repayment, bankruptcy, small business development, retirement planning, investment management, savings, risk management, tax and estate law and other similar topics.

Financial Literacy Training

Programs that provide assistance for people who want to improve their understanding of the consumer credit lending and collections systems, and maximize their skill in using credit. Services may include help in completing credit application forms, understanding how credit information is analyzed, choosing the best credit cards and/or interest rates available, determining how many credit cards can be managed, protecting one's credit information, communicating with creditors, improving poor credit reports and associated credit scores, eliminating credit card debt and dealing with other credit card issues.

Credit Counseling

Social Worker is available to meet 1-on-1 for emotional support, short-term counseling and resource navigation. Community referrals will be made for situations that need more intensive psychological interventions. 
Also offers:
- Legal Advisor 2nd M of the month. Appointments must be made in advance.
- Caregiver Support Group 2nd and 4th Th, for caregivers of family members with Alzheimer’s or memory loss.

Counseling and Support offered by Sno-Valley Senior Center

Provides a social worker for emotional support, short-term counseling and resource navigation for older adults. Coordinates a caregiver support group and a grief support group. Facilitates a legal advice service and a financial planning service.

Mutual support groups whose members are family, friends, significant others, non-familial caregivers or attendants who are caring for someone who has a temporary, chronic, life-threatening or terminal illness or disability or who is elderly and increasingly unable to provide for his or her own care. The groups meet in-person, by telephone or via the Internet; and provide emotional support, information and resources to help participants ensure their own well-being while remaining involved in the intense care of a loved one. Also included are care receiver support groups that help people who have a caregiver cope with the fact that they require care. Care receiver support groups are often offered in conjunction with caregiver support groups and are structured to allow care receivers to participate in their own group while their caregiver attends another.

Caregiver/Care Receiver Support Groups

Programs that provide information and guidance for individuals who need assistance in the area of law which relates to the rights and needs of older adults, especially in the areas of age discrimination, consumer fraud, estate planning and management, living trusts, trust administration, probate, property law, retirement planning, pension benefits, Social Security benefits, Medicaid and Medicare, disability planning, long-term care alternatives, health care decisions, elder abuse, guardianships and conservatorships.

Elder Law

Programs that provide emotional support, information and guidance in a variety of settings for older adults who are having mental, emotional or social adjustment problems that have arisen as a result of the process of aging. Geriatric counseling services are provided primarily by social services professionals including licensed social workers rather that psychiatrists or other medical personnel.

Geriatric Counseling

Mutual support groups whose members are people who have experienced a loss, such as the death of a loved one, divorce or separation. The groups meet in-person, by telephone or via the Internet; are open to anyone who has had a loss rather than structured for people with particular types of losses; and focus on helping participants accept their loss, express their grief, move through the bereavement process and put their lives back together.
