Manages the business of the court so as to provide the fair, prompt and understandable resolution of legal disputes. The Superior Court is a trial court of general jurisdiction that hears the following types of cases: felony criminal charges; civil disputes; dissolution of marriage and other domestic relations matters; controversies pertaining to real property; probate and guardianship; juvenile matters; adoptions; and appeals from district courts, and certain state and local administrative agencies.

Hears misdemeanor criminal cases, civil claims up to $100,000, small claims, traffic cases, and requests for domestic violence protection orders.

Provides staff and support to the Thurston County Superior Court. Court staff can provide: - the status of a specific case, unless the case is "confidential,"; - general information on court rules, procedures and practices; - court-approved forms; - court schedules and information on how to get matters scheduled. Staff cannot: - provide advice about whether one should file a case, or what actions they should take in the case; - words to put in a form; - advise anyone on what to say in court; - speculate about what decision the judge might make or what sentence the judge might impose.

Hears all traffic cases, misdemeanors, gross misdemeanors, and preliminary hearings in felony cases. Civil jurisdiction is concurrent with the Superior Court and extends to cases in which the amount in controversy does not exceed $100,000, exclusive of interest and costs. District Court hears small claims where the amount in controversy does not exceed $10,000. The District Court does not have jurisdiction in cases involving the title to real estate and certain other limited exceptions.

Highest level of trial court in state government and the only trial court of general jurisdiction. Any civil suit may be filed in Superior Court and all suits in excess of District Court's limited jurisdiction must be filed in Superior Court. All felony criminal proceedings must be filed in Superior Court. The Superior Court is also an appellate court for District and Municipal Courts.

Civil cases including both: General civil actions with damage claims in the maximum amount of $100,000. Small claims actions with money claims in the maximum amount of $5,000-$10,000. The small claims court may ONLY grant judgment for monetary damages. The court may not order the other party to return property or do any action except the payment of money. Infractions include traffic and code violations.

Provides services related to probation administration for low- and high-risk criminal cases, non-criminal civil infractions and public defender services.  Presiding judge is authorized by law to perform wedding ceremonies.

State trial courts that handle infractions punishable by a fine; misdemeanor cases such as petty theft, prostitution, intoxication and vandalism punishable by a fine with a maximum level (usually $1000) and maximum amount of time in county jail (usually a year or less); and felony cases such as murder, possession of dangerous drugs for sale, robbery and rape that are punishable by a state prison term.

Provides court services that deal with traffic violations, small claims, gross misdemeanors, and preliminary hearings of felony charges.

Hears cases involving alleged violations of City of Tacoma ordinances including, but not limited to: criminal charges, criminal traffic offenses, traffic and parking infractions. The court does not hear small claims or civil cases. Nor does the municipal court handle requests for protection orders, divorce or child custody cases.

Administers law within the city of East Wenatchee. Covers violations of city ordinances and limited civil and minor cases.

This Court also handles preliminary appearances on 72 hour holds for felony charges. King County Superior Court is a general jurisdiction trial court with responsibility for: - Civil matters involving more than $300, unlawful detainers and injunctions - Felony criminal cases - Misdemeanor criminal cases not otherwise provided for by law   - Family law, including dissolutions, child support, adoptions, parentage and domestic-violence protection matters - Probate and guardianship matters - Juvenile offender matters   - Juvenile dependencies, including abused and neglected children, children in need of services, at-risk youth and truancies - Mental illness and involuntary commitment matters Superior Court judges are available to perform civil wedding ceremonies.   Drop-in child care provided by the Children's Home Society at the Regional Justice Center while children's parents appear in court.

Court staff can provide: The status of a specific case, unless the case (or information in the case) is "confidential" (not available for public inspection because of state law or a judge’s decision). The court file on a specific case, (unless the case is "confidential,") for review. Printed general information on court rules, procedures and practices. Court-approved forms (forms are not available for all legal proceedings). Guidance on how to compute deadlines and due dates. Court schedules and information on how to get matters scheduled. The Superior Court Facilitator can help clients with filing of paperwork on Domestic and Custody cases. Court staff cannot provide: Advice about whether someone should file a case or whether they should take any particular action in a case. Information or what words to put in a form. Speculation about what decision the judge might make or what sentence the judge might impose. Comment about specific persons you may name in a petition or pleading. Change an order signed by a judge. Let someone involved with a case talk to a judge outside of court. Clerks office also accepts passport applications. Please call for more information.

King County District Court has jurisdiction over civil actions if the amount in controversy does not exceed $100,000.  Civil cases are usually disputes between private citizens, corporations, governmental bodies or other organizations.  They involve the determination of private or civil rights and compensation for the infraction.   This may include personal or property rights, such as: -  Landlord and tenant disputes -  Auto or personal accidents -  A breach of warranty -  Faulty consumer goods -  Contract disputes -  Foreclosures -  Professional liability suits   This jurisdiction DOES NOT deal with actions involving title to:  -  Real estate -  False imprisonment -  Libel -  Slander -  Malicious prosecution -  Seduction -  A person in his/her capacity as an executor or administrator of an estate  The trial in a civil action may be heard before either a judge or a jury. Either side may request a jury.

Has jurisdiction over traffic infractions arising from a violation of city ordinances or state statutes and criminal jurisdiction over all violations of city ordinances and state statutes adopted by city ordinances. The court also has jurisdiction over actions brought to enforce or recover license penalties or forfeitures declared by city ordinances or state statutes. Toppenish Municipal Court handles only those citations issued by the City of Toppenish Police Department or Code Enforcement Officer.
