The Caregiver Support Center offers an opportunity for unpaid caregivers, helping an adult in Kitsap County, to meet with a case manager, check out books from a lending library, and obtain brochures, tip sheets, and resource lists at no cost.  Unpaid caregivers may also inquire about scholarship eligibility for caregiver training, education, or workshop opportunities.

Caregiver Training, Information, and Education offered at Kitsap County Division of Aging and Long-Term Care - Caregiver Support Center

Offers information, education, counseling, and training options and referrals to help caregivers learn about community resources, care and self-care, obtain medical equipment, nutrition, legal resources, and other services.

Programs that provide training for family members and other informal caregivers which focuses on care-related activities such as medication management, personal care and making the home environment safe and barrier-free as well as on stress management and other techniques to help the caregiver take care of him or herself. The focus of the training is on building the skills and capacity of the caregiver to manage their caregiving role. Some programs include a caregiver assessment, development of an individualized plan that focuses on the caregiver, setting goals and establishing a routine for ongoing support for the caregiver.

Caregiver Training

Programs that provide emotional support, information and guidance in individual and/or group settings for family members, friends, significant others, non-familial caregivers or attendants who are caring for someone who has a serious illness or disability or who is elderly and increasingly unable to provide for his or her own care, and are feeling overwhelmed by their responsibilities and the effect that their caregiving role has had on their lives.

Caregiver Counseling

Programs that provide information that helps the public make choices which promote personal health, prevent illness and disability, take advantage of opportunities for early detection, and support their ability to deal effectively with health problems when they arise. General health education programs provide information about a wide variety of health related topics rather than specializing in a particular area.

Information and services available to people with personal computers equipped with Internet connections and the appropriate software.

Internet Information Resources

Programs that provide information about cognitive/learning aids, control and signaling aids, daily living aids, hearing augmentation aids, mobility aids, prosthetic/orthotic/seating devices, recreational aids, speech aids, and/or visual/reading aids which enables potential users to evaluate their alternatives and make informed choices.

Assistive Technology Information

Programs that collect, classify and distribute information about specific topics or problems which requires wide dissemination. Included are specialized information centers and organizations that provide reference assistance for the public regarding a wide variety of general and technical areas. The centers generally offer copies or reprints or allow people to come to the facility to do research but usually do not provide telephone information or refer people to specific resources.

Information Clearinghouses

Libraries that maintain collections of fiction and nonfiction reading materials that can be checked out by community residents who have library privileges.

Book Loan

Libraries or other organizations that maintain collections of movies, documentaries and other subjects in videotape and/or DVD format that can be used with library equipment or checked out for viewing at home or shown to community groups.

Videotape/DVD Collections

Programs that maintain lists of individuals or organizations which provide respite care services and link individuals or families who are in need of this service with appropriate resources.
