Operates an emergency day shelter during extreme weather events in the Spokane area. Temperatures need to be above 95 or below 15 degrees or hazardous air quality and activated by city of Spokane.

Offers materials for all ages: books, magazines, newspapers, CD's, videos, and cassettes. Offers the Handforth Gallery, Storytimes and Crafts, Tacoma Reads Together, summer reading club, book discussion resources, and computer labs with internet access. Also provides remote access to full-text articles from hundreds of magazines newspapers and journals; business resources, homework assistance and more.

Membership allows access to any of the nine community centers and their programs and facilities. Group fitness classes and youth programs, including swim lessons, are included in the monthly membership dues. Additional fees apply for childcare, some sports teams, and camp programs.
