Trained and screened volunteers provide emotional and practical support to people involved in traumatic events and their families in the first few hours following a tragedy: complete follow-up calls, information, and referral to other resources (burial services, probate information, hazardous clean up, and other services). Volunteers are requested to crisis scenes by police officers, firefighters, hospital personnel, organizations/businesses, and schools after a traumatic event.

The YouthLine is staffed by volunteers ages 15-18 who are supervised at all times by an adult. Volunteers from different high schools across the Portland Metro area complete 30 hours of crisis line training to develop peer helping skills and learn about substance use disorder and available treatment.
