Court has jurisdiction over all violations of the Seattle Municipal Code. Hears misdemeanors, gross misdemeanors, traffic and non-traffic infractions, and parking violations. Those charged with a criminal, jailable offense may be eligible for a public defender at the public's expense.

Hears cases for criminal misdemeanors and processes parking and non-criminal traffic citations occurring within the city limits of Kent and Maple Valley.  Offers public defender services for misdemeanor defendants.

Hears misdemeanor criminal cases, civil cases where damages amount to less than $100,000, small claims, traffic cases, and requests for domestic violence protection orders.

The court hears misdemeanor and gross misdemeanor criminal offenses, civil and traffic infractions, some civil lawsuits, protection orders, name changes, and performs marriage ceremonies. Criminal misdemeanor cases carry a maximum penalty of up to 90 days in jail and a $1,000 fine. Criminal gross misdemeanor cases carry a maximum penalty of up to 1 year in jail and a $5,000 fine. Some examples of criminal cases heard by the court are: DUI, Domestic Violence Assault, and Driving While Suspended. Civil cases including both: General civil actions with damage claims in the maximum amount of $100,000. Small claims actions with money claims in the maximum amount of $5,000-$10,000. The small claims court may ONLY grant judgment for monetary damages. The court may not order the other party to return property or do any action except the payment of money. Infractions include traffic and code violations.

Hears all traffic cases, misdemeanors, gross misdemeanors, and preliminary hearings in felony cases. Civil jurisdiction is concurrent with Superior Court and extends to cases in which the amount in controversy does not exceed $100,000, exclusive of interest and costs. District Court hears small claims where the amount in controversy does not exceed $10,000. The District Court does not have jurisdiction in cases involving the title to real estate and certain other limited exceptions.

The Olympia Municipal Court is a court of limited jurisdiction. Presides over the following types of cases: - non-traffic infractions, - traffic infractions, - criminal misdemeanors and gross misdemeanors, - and orders for protection for victims of domestic violence. Schedules arraignments, pre-trial hearings, non-jury and jury trials, sentencing, reviews, etc. Coordinates related services including legal representation for indigent persons, probation, and interpreter services. Citations issued by the City of Olympia Police Department, Code Enforcement Officer, or Animal Services for a misdemeanor or gross misdemeanor criminal offense, traffic infraction or code violation that occurred in the city limits, tickets will be filed in the Olympia Municipal Court.

Highest level of trial court in state government and the only trial court of general jurisdiction. Any civil suit may be filed in Superior Court and all suits in excess of District Court's limited jurisdiction must be filed in Superior Court. All felony criminal proceedings must be filed in Superior Court. The Superior Court is also an appellate court for District and Municipal Courts.
